Short Path Molecular Distillation

Short Path Distillation (also known as molecular distillation) is a thermal separation process specifically designed to separate heat-sensitive products. Short Path Distillation is characterized by short product residence time and low evaporation temperature, so that the thermal stress of the distilled product is reduced to the lowest. Therefore, Short Path Molecular Distillation is a very mild distillation process.

Short Path Molecular Distillation is matched with a vacuum system to significantly reduce the boiling point of the product by reducing the operating pressure. This is a continuous separation process with product residence times as low as tens of seconds (while other conventional separation methods can have residence times of up to hours!).

Therefore, in conventional distillation processes (whether continuous cycle, membrane distillation or discontinuous batch distillation), short-distance distillation can successfully separate products that decompose due to high temperature and long residence time. For example, when macro molecular organic compounds are separated by conventional distillation, higher process temperatures (e.g., above 200) lead to the cleavage of their heat-sensitive molecular chains. Therefore, the separation of polymer organic compounds is almost always by short distance distillation.

Short Path Distillation is particularly suitable for distillation, evaporation, concentration and stripping of heat-sensitive products such as:
(1) Pharmaceutical Industry:
Raw materials, natural and synthetic vitamins, stabilizers.
(2) Fine chemicals:
Removal of monomers from silicone oils, resins and polymers, removal of isocyanates from prepolymers, removal of solvents and oligomers from various resins.
(3) Flavors and spices:
Omega-3 fatty acids were purified from diester and triester by extracting monoglyceride.
(4) Petrochemical industry:
The oil and wax components are evaporated from fractionated petroleum, and the wax components are then fractionated to obtain hard and superhard waxes and to produce lubricants.
(5) Plastics industry:
Polyurethane prepolymers, epoxy resins, acrylates, polyols, plasticizers.
