Freeze-drying, also known as freeze-drying, is a low-temperature dehydration process used to treat heat-sensitive products. The technology is now standard practice in many pharmaceutical companies. Because it gently dries the product without destroying its biological activity and physical properties.
一, medical freeze-drying machine history
In 1906, Jacques-Arsene de Assonval invented the freeze-drying method at the College de France in Paris. Later, during World War II, it was widely used to preserve serum. Since then, freeze-drying has become one of the most important processes for preserving heat-sensitive pharmaceuticals and biological materials.
二, the advantages of medical freeze-drying machine
1, maintain chemical and physical properties
Unlike heat-based drying methods, freeze-drying uses low temperatures and a process called sublimation and desorption to vaporize water. It avoids excessive heat to protect the integrity of the product, which does not affect chemical or physical properties.
2. Preserve biological activity
For the pharmaceutical industry, where many products and specimens are fragile, unstable, and heat-sensitive, this preservation technique is ideal. Usually freeze-drying ensures biological activity >90%.
3, easy to store and transport
The moisture content of freeze-dried drugs is <3%, which is suitable for long-term storage and transportation at room temperature. Simply add water to restore the product to its original state. The ability to stabilize products and increase the shelf life of medicines and medicines has made freeze drying one of the most widely used techniques in the pharmaceutical industry. The shelf life of freeze-dried agents is said to be at least 5 years and up to 30 years.
三, the common use of medical freeze-drying machine
1. Pharmaceutical powder
a: Injection: freeze-dried compound glycyrrhizin, recombinant human interferon γ, etc.
Stem cell, biopharmaceutical, chemical pharmaceutical;
b: Vaccines: encephalitis inactivated vaccine, intradermal injection of BCG vaccine, mumps live attenuated vaccine, yellow fever live attenuated vaccine, etc.
c: Protein: immunoglobulin, human prothrombin complex, human fibrinogen, snake venom serum, scorpion venom serum, Staphylococcus A protein pure products, etc.;
d: Antibiotics: freeze-dried diphtheria antitoxin, freeze-dried tetanus antitoxin, etc.;
2. Chinese Medicinal materials (finishing)
a: Plants: Ginseng, Notoginseng, American ginseng, Dendrobium, Scutellaria skullcap, Licorice, Radix salva, Wolfberry, safflower, honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, Ganoderma lucidum, ginger, Peony, peony, Rehmannia, yam (Huaishan), Ginkgo, Astragalus, Cistanche, orange peel, Tremella tremella, Hawthorn, monk fruit, Gastrodia gastrodia, Tianshan Snow Lotus, etc.;
b: Animals: royal jelly, placenta, cordyceps, seahorse, bear gall, deer antler, deer blood, musk, ejiao, heparin sodium, etc.;
3. Raw materials
Biological raw materials, animal raw materials, chemical raw materials, concentrated extraction drugs;
4. Detection reagent
Environmental testing: water quality testing reagents, soil testing reagents and other freeze-dried;
Diagnostic detection reagent, inspection detection reagent, biochemical detection reagent;
5, biological specimens, biological tissues
For example, make various animal and plant specimens, dry and preserve the skin, cornea, bone, aorta, heart valve and other marginal tissues of xenogeneic or homologous transplantation of animals, such as freeze-dried;
6. Microorganisms and algae
Such as a variety of bacteria, yeast, enzymes, protozoa, micro-algae and other long-term preservation, such as freeze-drying
7, biological products, drugs
Such as the preservation of antimicrobials, antitoxins, diagnostic supplies and vaccines;
四, drug freeze-drying process
Essentially, freeze-dried pharmaceuticals consist of three main steps: freezing, primary drying, and secondary drying, which include:
Freezing: The water product is rapidly frozen to prevent the formation of large crystals that could damage the cell walls of the material.
Primary drying (sublimation): This is the second stage of the freeze-drying process, in which the pressure is reduced and heating causes the frozen water to evaporate. Depending on the sample, this process can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to complete. Once the primary drying is complete, 93-95% of the water has sublimed out.
Secondary drying (adsorption): This is the final stage where the temperature is further raised to remove residual moisture. The remaining water trapped in the solid matrix is desorbed by increasing the temperature.
The freeze-dried medicine is then packaged in glass vials with rubber stoppers and aluminum crimped caps.
